TTC First flight out of Santa Paula Calfornia.
The water temp never got over 120 degrees F. The oil temp never got
over 166 F No oil cooler. 3 gallons of oil. The throttle never got
over 52% The manifold pressure never got over 48 inches of Hg The
blow off valve on the manifold is now set to 71 inches of Hg. We can
reset it to anything up to 100 inches of Hg. The exhaust temperature
never got over 1500 F.
So much for the first flight.

tied down. The second chart is going to amaze you if you really know
engines.
Full throttle at ... wait for it........85 INCHES OF MERCURY!!!!!
A piston engine would blow up and kill everybody within 50 feet of
it.
7200 RPM static tied to my truck. Two strands of half inch nylon
rope that stretches.
All the temperatures are well within limits including the manifold
air temp at only 130 F. Water injection cools it.
This is why we put a blow off valve on the manifold set to 71" of
mercury.

Paul, what was the lambda or airport and 85 inches of mercury? Also
what your charts would be more informative if the ranges were set
more realistically for air, oil, and water temperatures. Increase the
top of the range to at least 200. The AFR is probably most critical
making sure that you don't go lean at wide open throttle.

The Motec does a good job controlling it around .72 to .76.
Do you know how to control the variables displayed in Motec i2?
A few like Lambda was deleted in the high pressure data I have. I
can get the data again out of the airplane and it will be in there.
Does the M800 always sense barometric pressure?

I guess we are just lucky that nothing blew up and killed everyone within
50 feet when we used to run the Offys at 90" HgA on methanol. :-)
Probably even more amazing was that we ran both the 1.5 and 2 liter 4
cyl. turbo BMWs at 120" HgA on gasoline (maybe more accurately,
toluene). :-)

Wow! I did not know the offy went that high.
I did know it held the world record for HP per cubic inch.
The Allison engine that powered the P40 copied
the offy valve layout but used only one cam instead of two.
That BMW must have been amazing. We don't know the limit
on the rotary so far yet. There are no connecting rods in it
to fail in compression. I think the limit at low RPM will be the oil film
between the rotor bearing and the e-shaft. A wider rotor is better
than a narrow rotor in that regard.
In theory a beryllium aluminum rotor would
allow 20,000 RPM doubling the HP at the same boost.
Right now the rotary compression load and centrifugal load are equal
at 6000 RPM normally aspirated. In other words they cancel out at that RPM.
The same number for a piston engine is 3600 RPM.
I ironically (under a lot of boost) higher RPM is better.
