Some great old racing shots Paul. The wing explanation is brief, but
interesting, at least to me. Regarding Colin Chapman's Lotus wing
follies I remember Jim Hall's comment to the officials, "I have seen
wheels come off too. They aren't looking to ban wheels!" I didn't
remember your use of a watts linkage to keep the struts vertical.
Seems like a good idea. Did the rubber mount washer set ups have
enough compliance to accommodate the change in "track"? Of was the
suspension travel so short that it didn't mater? Bill Jepson

Thanks Bill. That was a great comment of Jim's.

It was a combination of the rubber washers and the 4130 triangular
leaf spring. You probably know that the stress is constant in a
 triangular leaf sprint.

It was so simple and it worked so great.

As an interesting aside, Durring my racing early years I remember
SCCA SF Region F-A was being dominated by John David Briggs. Old
Briggs and Stratton money! He had a very nice car which was built by
the dad of a guy I worked with who owned Fodge Racing. Had a good
wing. He lapped the field at one regional event as I recall. Did you
build his wing? Or was that way after you had moved on? I was getting
into building motorcycle engines at the time, (900 Kawasaki's), for
LeGrand Mk8 D sports racers. Built one for an eventual national champ
David Leeson. Sadly that was when they let the 2 strokes compete on a
even displacement and the best he did with my engine was second. This
was shades of the Wankel displacement arguments and Wankel vs. piston
 comparisons. Bill Jepson

 What year was that?

I think it was 1981 or thereabouts.

Interesting vid. Would like to see more on the watts link set-up for the wings.

Dan Gorsline

The wings in the video were not Watts links. Only the Chaparral used the Watts links.
Both the Group 6  2F and the Canam 2E and the 2D used the watts link.

Here is the 2F rear wing drawing.
