I am amazed I did not figure this out years ago. I read Kenichi 1969
book Rotary Engine years ago. And then did not bother to read it
again when the 1981 Rotary Engine book came out. I assumed the same
subjects were covered in the 1981 book but they were not. The airflow
in the combustion chamber situation in the 1981 book was ignored.

You know what is meant about assumed.

It makes an "ass" out of you and "me" :-)

Kenichi knew all about the problem from the get go.

I am also amazed  nobody attempted to fix the problem until now.

Don't take my word for it.

I remember talking to someone about Caterpillar 3600 series natural gas
engines. These are advanced stratified charge engines. 11 inch bore and
11 inch stroke. They have two spark plugs per cylinder. One is used for
ignition I was told while the other reads the combustion so the computer
can change the timing and I think the fuel ratio. I seem to remember him
talking about ions at the sensor plug the computer could read.

Hi!: there are three editions of the Mazda book about Rotary Engine, one dated 1969, signed by K Yamamoto, another in 1971, entitled just: 'Rotary Engine', and the 1981 book with a silvered cover, that is available for download in the web.

Content in these editions differs, and is complementary, you get a more comprehensive view of the research by Toyo Kogyo on RCE by reading it all three.
