Paul,

Is there a good choice for EFI controllers for the 2^nd gen P Port?

Which one could accommodate a MAF sensor?

I have place a unit use in Ford V8s in the intake tract,

Does TPS work on the P Port?

Does Teeing the chambers using the oil spray orifices work with MAP
on the P Port?

I have an EC-4 single processor unit from Tracy,

I just want to get the engine running and have been sorting out
wiring sensors.

Tracy's device is designed to use manifold pressure and not MAF
sensors.

The only controller that I know about that will use a MAF is the
$3000 Motec. That has very steep learning curve indeed with
inadequate documentation.

Megasquirt might work.

            Joe,   I have just switched to Fueltech and am very happy with
   it now,
            but a lot of grief to get here.  All revolved around not enough fuel,
            for the standard fueltech is programmed around standard injectors in a
            rotary.  Does everything I need and possibly 3 times what is needed.  I
            really do not need to know when to change gears, nor to log into
            "burnout" mode etc.  Google fuel tech and there is an online instruction
            manual.  Cost me  $3300 AUD so in USD take possibly 25% off and freight
            to OZ as well.

        Why the rotary died. No knowledge numb nuts. I would say a couple of problems. Yes economy and emisions are issues. The big problem is that when Ford owned about 35% of the company they had a lot of pull.
   Part of that allowed them to send executives to monitor expenses. The bank prior to that had started pulling the reins when the exchange rate was not as favorable for Japanese industry which adversely affected sales. Ford execs pulled focus to more mainstream products that are an easier sell and with well established technology. Now there is many in management that subscribe to the quick easy money deal. Not many of the original engineers and staff that overcame the rotary design issues virtually every other company gave up on. Still some enthusiasts there though.

        One of the so called problems mentioned is the alleged loss of compression as the apex seal
        passes over the spark plug hole.  Fake news.

        These people have not read Kenichi Yamamoto book "Rotary Engine".
        Essential reading.

        Air has inertia. Think of air as a lot of tiny marbles. If you only open a hole for a tiny
        fraction of second not much air will pass through.

        I suspect the combustion chamber has yet to be accurately modeled by
        CFD. Computational Fluid Dynamics. This is the gist of the problem understanding
        how to improve the combustion. It is a moving combustion chamber and the
        air will respond consistent with it's inertia.

   No arguement from me there. My statement is more looking to the management perspective introduced and perpetrated from Ford and the Japanese bank. Granted it helped get through a difficult time and get profitable but everyone needs a hero or mascot. For Mazda that is the rotary engine.

   I think the Ford mistake was the 12 gallon fuel tank in the RX8 gave it a bad rep for fuel burn. The 4 doors and four seats were not that bad.

Circuit Gizmo $59.

   One for each rotor.  Fuel only. I would get the M&W CD system for the ignition.
   CD systems are much much easier to install as they fire exactly when you tell them to fire.
   The stock RX8 and GM coils are a big problem as they must be programmed for proper
   dwell.

   The maximite is very very easy to program.

   You just need a crank angle sensor. The stock crank angle sensor will work fine.

I used to think my 1973 RX3 was bad on fuel until I noticed I drove 250 miles on a Friday night and never left the city. Lots of driving it hard. If I behaved in the city I got about 18 MPG and 20 MPG highway at 75 mph. Beat most V8 cars and fuel economy like them. Better than lots of them. But if comparing to a Pinto, Vega or the rice rockets it was poor.
I think the 16X with a power recovery system would work well and get fair fuell economy.
