One of the spectacularly and amazing developments in electronics is when one integrated circuit can
take the place of a whole printed circuit board full of transistors, resisters and
capacitor. This has happened over and over again starting back in the 1970's
and continuing  to this day. It is why the smart phone computer only cost $50.

That is the case of the UC3845 in this schematic.

Here is a picture of a very famous (in the Australian  electrical engineering  world)
of a board full of parts for capacitor discharge ignition system. This is the way
the CD system  was done world wide before the advent of the UC3845 integrated circuit.

I have one of these systems printed circuit board full of transistors, resisters and
capacitorand I tested it extensively. It is probably the basis for the Oz M&W  CD ignition system.
Here are some pictures of it.

The effect of the UC3845 was a drastic reduction in cost of capacitor discharge ignition systems.

My recent design up loaded on here takes advantage of the UC3845 to drastically
simplify the PC board..

BTW My patent application still pending does not use this chip but it does not need it.
It will fire five or six times in a row at 8000 RPM on a rotary or two
stroke engine but it requires a computer with special software  to do this.
Here is a video.
