Chris Hoskins,

This particular Bolly configuration is our solution to overcome the Bolly self-imposed limit of 125 HP per prop. With this setup, the propeller system will absorb your 250 HP with ease. The Rotary engine is very kind to propellers as well, unlike a Lycoming 0-540 260 HP direct drive engine.

The Bolly guys make a great product and they will customize their products to meet custom applications. Their blades are stiff and light with a tough leading edge that is as hard as roller blade wheels. Craig said they will use a blade profile that will favor a high cruise speed.

Warp Drive makes a similar propeller for airboats, but they won’t sell a prop for an aircraft with a “canard”. We have been a distributor for their props for over 18 years now. Attached is a picture of the Warp Drive airboat prop that uses a similar configuration. The Bolly blades run quieter and spin up faster due to their shape and lower mass.

Call or write if you have more questions.

Thanks
Ron

Hi Ron,

Sorry about the delay in replying (been busy). It seems like a very interesting solution for sure. I have checked out the Bolly web site. Do you have any other pics/sites for this prop ? i would like to do some further research on it. There is no huge rush here, I have left myself plenty of time to find out these sort of things.

        Cheers Chris.

Chris,

We came up with a great pusher propeller to load your 250 HP at 2880 prop RPM for high cruise speed, based on the information you provided.

It is a 6-bladed 64” carbon fiber composite prop. It is a tandem 3-blade with the aft 3-blade prop blades clocked 60 degrees offset/trailing the forward blades for increased efficiency. The aft prop blades would be set a few degrees higher in pitch than the forward blades. This configuration is more efficient than having all 6-blades in the same plane, or all in a row, equally spaced.

My company is a world-distributor for Bolly propellers and Bolly is the manufacturer of all of this propeller’s components. The BOS3 blades will include the Dura-Tuff leading edge protection, carbon fiber composite construction and a custom blade profile for speed. Individual blades are replaceable if damaged beyond repair. Blade pitch is infinitely adjustable to load the engine at the RPM you want for takeoff and cruise.

The hubs are made of “the best aviation grade 7075 T6 series alloy plate (not a cheap casting) and treated for corrosion resistance (hence the gold colour).”

The prop would be shipped direct to you from Bolly Aviation in AU, if you like this propeller. Your cost is $2,456 USD, plus $50 TNT shipping.

My company (Hoverhawk Corporation) will be using this configuration on other customer applications world-wide (fast or slow movers) whenever a reduction drive is between the engine and the propeller and the engine power is greater than 125 HP.

We all believe you we be very happy with this propeller system. Thank Peter and Craig at Bolly Aviation for making this propeller possible.

Let us know what you think about it!

Thanks
Ron

If it is ground adjustable like the warp drive it will work.

You can make your own adjustable hub with as many blades as you
want. Buy just the blades. You can buy blades now from half a dozen
prop makers including Sensenich . They are all doing the warp drive hub.

So far the Sensenich blades are the best but there are other copies
out there. The warp drive blades have no twist so they are not good
for a wide speed range.

The prop on this coot really works. It pops out the water like a scolded
goose when the rotary runs on NOS. About 200 HP without NOS.
About 300 with NOS.

The front and back plates are about 13 mm thick.
