I just had a bright idea.

It is possible to keep an aircraft EFI system working with the engine
running with out being connected to a computer. In other words the
computer sets up the EFI for RPM and air intake and can then disconnected.

What this means is you can reprogram the computer in the air
while your flying along at a constant speed and altitude.
You could change the whole program to something you nay have
used before. You could fix a bug.

The Maximite not only is the EFI computer it takes the place
of the PC used by Motec and Mega Squirt for reprogramming.

It uses DOS rather than windows. Windows is entirely unnecessary
and over kill for programing. Programming is done with a simple ascii
editor even under windows!.

A small 5" by 10" pc keyboard is quite practical in the cockpit.
The VGA display is on the instrumental panel and could be an EFI
as well as used for the program editor when it is not doing the EFIS..

The key is a $2 chip called "Digital-to-Analog Converter
with SPI Interface". SPI  is a serial interface so only one Maximite pin
is required to send data to a stand alone, free running EFI.

This is a MAJOR BREAK THROUGH,

Here is the schematic of a stand alone EFI that does not need the
attention of a computer to keep running. The 555 is capable of triggering
the injector FET.

The parts are super low cost and the circuit board is tiny and also
low cost. Probably less than $10.

I tested this with a parallel digital to analog  converter but it required
16 pins out of the Maximite.

Worked like a charm.

One of these per injector.

Paul, would this circuit work with a Hall Effect sensor, instead of a VR sensor ?

Thanks, Steve Carlisle

Yes. No LM1815 required.
