If I am going to drill one P-port hole in a RX& housing why not drill
two in an RX8?
Rx7 housing are huge money here. £350 is the average for one housing. I
have bought three maxda RX8 engines on separate occasions for £50 each
and they are complete engines. Looking out for more as this is not
likely to be for long.
Should my ideas work I don't mind investing in new parts and having all
the machinery done by some expert but I can make old parts run or if the
ideas don't work I can modify without huge losses. And that's important
to me.
I want to see the two rotor running on a BD4 mount turning a good hp
prop and a supercharged single rotor pulling a high hp multiblade . (
I have a single seat pusher of same looks and similar construction to
the Pushy Cat and Galor which had an 0-200 )

Hi Mark,
There is a company in Aus that make Al side port end plates. They
race a pretty quick 20B drag car using them. Should be ideal.

Thank you Chris,
I had a look at their site sometime ago but their prices are way beyond me.
I think I have a plan. A cunning plan to build my own end and centre
housings. I figure they only need to carry water and avoid distortion
from heat. They have to withstand the wear of the side rotors and that's
pretty much it. I can utilise a oil dry sump pump and a stand alone
pulley powered water pump and alternator so these end plates don't have
to copy the standard items. In fact they can be very simple indeed.
I now have to choose between sheet alloy or steel .
My only other consideration now is if an alloy housing weather to have a
thin steel liner and how to attach it to the alloy plate so that it
didn't distort. Lots of small countersunk grub screws could fix it to an
alloy backplate then the screws heads could be welded into the steel
liner and the whole thing resurfaced. Perhaps they would be ok with some
sort of fixing glue.
Or it could just be an alloy surface but I am worried about the high
temperatures and damage to the alloy face by the side rotors.

These simple two piece end housing could probably be made with an end mill.
Water jet cut the steel wear surfaces.
Here are some ideas you can kick around. Using a dry sump oil pump and
stand alone water pump make them simple.

Thanks Paul,
That's great brain feed.
With a stand alone face plate as you show would 1/4 thick 4130 be thick
enough to not distort under turbo pressure and the high temperatures?
Or could it be thinner ?
Could it be made of mild steel plate then hardened?
If I had a scanner I would send you my sketches for an idea how I am
thinking.

Too thick and too heavy. Try 3/32"
An old fashion rotary table will help the end mill machine semi
circular O ring slots
or arcs the size of the top of a rotary housing. Water jets can cut
thick aluminum
as well. Perhaps a water jet can make O-ring slots.
Here are some pictures of a steel lathe support I did for my lathe.
I got more pictures of the finished product if I can find it :-)
I finished machining it on my beefed up rotary table.
Then the TTC project started so I never used it.
I am not sure about the UK but old used machine tools are dirt cheap
as NC Mills have taken over in the US.
