I'm using Megasquirt and I truly think it's the way to go. You don't
need to learn C programming at all. It has an SDCard to catalog
(black box). The user interface program is called "Tuner Studios".
Mouse and a laptop to program your engine, very very user-friendly.
You can also use your android with bluetooth to tune. The open source
community of Mega squirt is amazing. It's more advanced then most car
manufactures ECM.
I'm actually going to develop a board with dual power supplies, that
a mega squirt can plug into. Will also handle EGT's, Wide-band, and
another handful of extra analog sensors onto of the mega squirt.
Since I'm using GRT (another great open source company) for my EFIS,
I send all the mega squirt data to appear on GRT screens. If Dynon,
MGL, give me their serial protocol, I can port the data to those
screens too.

Mat,
I find this very interesting! One glaring omission
from all ECU on the current market is a trim pot to alter the mixture
rapidly up to 2 points. Tracy had this and SDS also have this. None of
the other do. Can this be added??

I read a post from a guy that planned to create two fuel maps and use a
switch to change between them. One map for lean and one for power. Seems
like it would work OK but I haven't been able to figure out how to set
that up. My idea is to build the fuel map for best power if the throttle
position sensor sees 95-100 percent then build the rest of the map to be
lean if the throttle position is less than 95 percent. Seems like that
would work good. Automatic leaning with throttle position

Lean is a function of altitude.
It's a car EFI :-)
Is there data recording on an SD card?
