Hello Paul,
A fellow experimental builder suggested I contact you regarding installing a wankel
engine in the BD5 I am completing. I am active on FaceBook with the BD5Pilot page as
well as starting video blogging on YouTube with same name (BD5Pilot).
I have been talking with Frank Verbeke about the A650 engine he has been involved in
developing. I have rebuilt a wankel from my first car, a 1973 RX3 so I do have
experience working with wankel engines. My concern in the aircraft is cooling it,
especially on the ground, keeping the engine compartment cool and designing an
exhaust system that doesn't have overheating problems in the confined quarters of a
non stretch BD5 body.
Your input or even just directions where to look for information would be greatly
appreciated.

For the BD5 I highly recommend investing in the aluminum end housings
That will cut the engine weight almost by a 100 pounds down to about
250 fire wall aft :-)
A one rotor would be enough for a BD5. A p-port NA would give you about 120 HP.
Of course if you turbo it the sky is the limit with 85 inches of Hg manifold
pressure possible :-)
You will need a gear box. One is being worked on in Oz.
Or you could use a 3:1 cog belt.
Attached is a project we just finished.
