Paul I have been trying to find the factory dimensions for the bearing surfaces of
the Renisis e shaft with no luck at all.
I have found a retired engineer happy to make me a single rotor
e shaft but I do need these measurements to be spot on. Do you or any of your
subscribers have these details to hand. Need rotor and main bearing surfaces factory
measurements.
Hope someone could help

Most people start with a 2 rotor shaft and cut it down.
That saves some heat treating and grinding.
I don't have a mic that will go that big and I don't have an RX8 shaft. I have some
older shafts but if your building a one rotor it probably does not matter as there
are only minor differences in length.

We put the shaft in the lathe today and it wreaked two cutters in a few minutes.
How do those who have done it go about cutting it down ?
The engineer thought we would go through a hell of a lot of cutters .
I didn't want to take measurements off my old shaft when ( if we were to make a new
one) we could start with correct measurements.
I spoke to Mick Hurley this morning but he didn't have much that he could help me
with as it was his dad who had played with the one, three and four rotor engines .
I'm not up to scratch with Aero at all Paul.

Where they carbide cutters?
A another trick is mount a grinder on the tool post and use that to get below the
hardened surface.
Also a acet torch can heat the unwanted lobe and let it cool slowly.
Get it red hot, and then let it cool slowly.

Guys,
Nothing on the shaft is harder than good carbide cutters.... the material
work hardens as you cut it, so each cut must be deep enough to get
through the surface that hardened from the cut, usually .005 depth of cut will do it.
