I just read a great  book called "My Heart is Africa"
By Scott Griffin a Canadian.

He flew a C180 to Europe by way of the Azores and
then all over Africa for two years  and then
back to Canada by way of Iceland.

Good roads were few and far between so light aircraft were
a good way to get around. A turbo rotary in a C180 would
have been great as there are a lot of tall mountains in Africa
to fly over. BTW he cracked a crankshaft in the process.

Amazing stories.

Here is  a scan of his trip map. This was done starting in 1996

He worked for the Flying Doctors in Kenya for some of the time.

I was captivated by the wonderful  second picture :-)

Yes Indeed an exciting adventure for Scot Griffin. The photo of the OmuHimba (single) girl he must have taken on his way back, when he visited  the region, called The Kaokoland.

The Himba`s are indigenous of this region as I was also born and raised in The Kaokoland in Namibië in 1963.This is the area South of the Kunene river and also a part North of the river into Southern West Angola. The Himba`s are nomadic livestock farmers and moved those days to other regions in the Kaokoland as the gracing permits them due to rainfall.

We as children learned from them "how to live from mother earth " but never took too much of what the nature has to offer.

These skills what I have learned from the OvaHimba (more than one) saved my life during the South West Africa Bush War. I joined the special forces 1982 in the war against the invasion of the Cubans from Angola. As I was in the "Recce" (recognizance) we went out scouting the enemy for days at a time and has to survive on limited food from the base and lived from Mother Earth. Today they are still in the region but are overwhelmed by tourism in some of the regions especially in the Upupa Falls region. They gave them food and wine as gifts and some of them has fallen into "beggar’s"

But this is not all of them, and they have a very special part in my heart today, as one of the oldest tribes in Africa. The characteristics of the reddish clay and cattle fat that they put over their skins to protect them from insects and the harsh African sun are synonym with them.

Does Epupu Falls  have another name? I can't find it on the Google map.
I can't figure out where he landed.
