I went to a recent SCCA race in Homestead Fl and checked out rotary powered cars.
The SCCA has several categories but most don't allow P-ports.
Unfortunately there were only two cars in the GT cat that allows P-ports.
Neither one was a p-port rotary. One was a space frame Corvette.
The other a very well engineered Honda with a 2.4 liter 240 HP front drive.
Due to the aluminum block it blew a head gasket. Nothing new there :-)
P-ports are a cheap way of getting a lot of power out of a NA rotary.
300 HP is no problem. Here is a picture of one dating back to the early 80's.
Unfortunately there were no p-port rotaries in the GT race.
My friend Dave runs a side port RX7.
Here are some pictures of Dave Smith's car and a video.
My guess is is about 200 HP at the most. Near stock.
Surprisingly Dave is allowed to use a modified cell phone to work as a fuel injection
system and ignition. More on this device when I get some info on the guy
that is building it. It potentially is very powerful and relatively low cost and in
theory can save, display and store a lot of engine data. Cell phone computer
chips are some of the most powerful computer chips in the world.
