Kit Planes had another article on aircraft piston engines. 31
percent of accidents are caused by mechanical failure of the piston
engine. Most parts that break are not even in a rotary.

Nobody has ever cracked an e-shaft let alone break it and that
includes the turbo 650 HP version in the time to climb to 10,000
feet record aircraft running at 80 inches of Hg manifold pressure
and 8000 RPM.

Good question. I think it is an alloy of stainless steel and the company that made it
is out of biz.
