Paul, Are you familiar with the Mistral 2 and 3 rotor aircraft
engines being developed in Europe. Do you know what is different from
the Mazda engines that you have worked with and what they are doing?
Thanks
Julian Morrison
They are near identical to the side port Mazda's. P-ports would have
given them 20% more power.
They attempted to FAA certify the rotary for 15 or 20 years which
was an economic mistake. They ran out of money. They should have just
sold parts to the experimental market. There are a few videos on my
youtube site. See the key search word below.
Here are some pictures from the factory in Geneva.

Julian, I had just chatted with Mistral, they claim certification now
and from the prices for engines they are quoting it sure seems like
it. Their engines are bit heavy for the power output. I agree with
Paul, P=Ports would have been a better approach and better power to
weight ratio. Robert Jones
There is US certification and EU certification. Typically when
automotive parts are used in EU certified the engines are not allowed
to be overhauled. They must be thrown away after a certain number of
hours. Typically 1500 hours.
Actually this makes a lot of sense with a piston engine. Even tho a
piston engine crankshaft does not have cracks at TBO it may develop
cracks after a few more hours use.

Robert,
I checked with them last year and they quoted approximately $60k us for the G-300, 3
rotor, 290 lbs, 300hp experimental engine at that time. I think that is crazy for an
experimental engine. It’s a nice looking package and I’m curious about the PSRU that
they are using, where the extra weight is coming from and how unique the ECUs are to
name a few?
I attached the emails from Mistral below just for reference.
Thanks,
Julian Morrison

"Dear Julian,
Thank you for your message and your interest in Mistral Engines.
We are currently taking orders for the experimental versions of our
normally aspirated engines: the G-300 and the G-200.
Regarding your project and G-300 engine request, find below some
additional information.
Unique advantages offered by MISTRAL ENGINES:
90% less moving parts than reciprocating engines.
Thermal shock eliminated with liquid-cooling, full redundancy of DEM
system.
Runs on avgas, mogas, and ethanol-blended options.
3000 hours target TBO and three-year warrantee
Next to no vibrations, higher payload.
Compact, parts easily accessible, dynafocal or bed-type mounts,
tractor or pusher configurations.
Attractive cost of ownership: 3000-hours target TBO, fuel consumption
optimized in all flight phases, reduced average fuel bill.
Engines prices and delivery time are as follow:
G-300 list price is 56’000 Euros (VAT excluded) . This includes
the complete electronic Engine Management system (FADEC), with two
ECUs and complete wiring harness, starter system, one alternator (28V
or 14V), fuel pumps, installation manual, operating and maintenance
manuals, engine logbook. The engine provides both dynafocal and
bed-mounting provisions, which have the same positioning as IO-540.
The delivery time for our engines is roughly two months after the
order.
These prices already included a 15% discount for early adopter.
The prices may evolve in the next weeks according to the exchange
rate of the Swiss Franc.
These prices might be subjected to discount for numerous orders of
engines.

They build their own gear box (PSRU).
For that kind of money I would expect p-ports and aluminum end housings
and 375 HP NA.
