A hangar neighbor has a Velocity with a 13b with a Ross re-drive. 25 year old project
that is licensed and flew once. He's 85 years young now and trying to revive the
project. Newly rebuilt engine. He seems confused about lubricating the Ross drive and
wanted to fill it with oil. I convinced him to feed engine oil with a 1/16"
restrictor to the top and add a drain line from the bottom. Currently that is 1/4" id
hose. Will this work? He is concerned about blowing out the seals, as he had that
problem initially, and that led him to remove the feed line for a time. Can't find
the documentation from Ross.
BTW, this aircraft is planned to be put up for sale soon. Anyone interested?
Thanks for any help,
Mark Curley
If the drain is large enough there should be no pressure build up to blow the seals.
The temperature is another matter so use Teflon seals. Part 10.

In your experience, is a 1/4" ID hose adequate for a drain line?
Mark Curley
Yes. Make sure the drain hose enters the oil pan as high as possible.
That is the lowest pressure inside the oil pan.
