Once you accept the blow down technology you must design the
exhaust manifold from an aerodynamic point of view.
We could have done a better job on the time to climb exhaust
manifold. For one thing we did not need the waist gate
branch. The vent branch could have been smaller diameter.
For some strange reason it does affect the power.
I suspect this is why Mercedes is dominating F1.
Some of the other companies may not fully understand
the blow down technology. It is much harder to do for a four cycle piston
engine. Each cylinder pulse comes along only 25% of the time while a two rotor
comes along 50% of the time. Careful planning is essential for a four cycle.
